Laurie Melnyk
Laurie represents Forestburg where she was born and raised. She worked at Daysland Health Centre in lab and x-ray for 45 years and Forestburg Clinic two days a week for ten years. She retired in 2021 and enjoys helping on the farm, mainly landscaping and small carpentry jobs. Laurie manages the local fitness centre and volunteers for the library and Communities in Bloom.
Mel Henriksen
Mel Henriksen has recently taken over the role of Area Manager for Acute Care Services in Daysland, Hardisty, Tofield and Viking Health Centres. Prior to this new position, Mel had served as Site Manager in Tofield and has many years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Born and raised in small-town Alberta, Mel’s passion is rural health care and promoting excellence in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Jerry Saik
Jerry is a resident of Daysland. He graduated from he U of Alberta with a Pharmacy degree in 1974 and is a former owner of the pharmacy in Daysland. He was a former pharmacy services consultant for the hospitals in the Flagstaff region. Although semi-retired, Jerry continues in his role as an executive member in a large group of independent pharmacies in the Edmonton area. He continues his support of endowments and scholarships of pharmacy and athletes at the U of A as well as being involved with other Foundations.
Mariann Wolbeck
Mariann graduated as an RN and has worked at the Daysland Health Centre since 1972. Her role as Head Nurse and then Health Centre Coordinator was full-time. She has recently retired and has more time to volunteer with the Royal Purple and Providence Place. Her volunteer duties may take her miles away, but she always manages to be there for family and friends when they need her, especially the grandchildren.
Myrna Rawe
Myrna represents the community of Strome where she and her husband have farmed for the last 35 years. She volunteers with the Strome Agricultural Society and now with the Daysland Hospital foundation. Thanks to her, our first annual Ladies’ Night at Strome was a resounding success.
Denise Miller
Denise Miller graduated as an RN and began working at the Daysland General Hospital in 1976. She farms with her husband in the Daysland and Strome area, where they raised a family of two daughters and two sons. She now enjoys retirement, spending time with her grandchildren, and volunteering. Denise loves to garden, golf and sew. She belongs to the Daysland Crocus Quilters sewing quilts for “Bags of Love”.
Janet Wolbeck
Janet worked for 28 years at the Daysland Health Center as a registered nurse then as the Head Nurse. Following this she worked for Central Zone as the Surgical Program Lead and MDR Zone Manager till 2015 when following retirement she worked in Viking as a Perioperative Nurse in their OR. Following many years of travelling around Central Zone she enjoys being home with her family and grandkids spending time in her gardens and craft room.
Kursten Wetzstein
I am new to Daysland but not new to living in rural communities. I have been a RN working in mostly rural communities for the last 17 years. As a new leader, I am committed to providing the Dayslands community with the best Health Care services possible. I believe that Daysland is a jewel in the prairies, where our site shines by providing the best in Emergency services, In Patient services, Endoscopy, an IV clinic and inpatient Rehab services for the community and the whole zone.
Beth Borgel
I am representing the great village of Bawlf I grew up and was raised north of Bawlf and went to Bawlf school for all 12 years. After I was married, we farmed south of Strome until I retired back to Bawlf in 2019. My career was in accounting, starting with a CA firm in Camrose, and moving into different areas of financial management with various Shoppers Drug Marts, and lastly at the John Deere dealership in Killam until I went into business for myself having a store in Camrose for a few years. I am now enjoying different activities with our seniors’ clubs and volunteering on various boards where I enjoy serving and meeting many different people from all over our precious country.
